I am honoured that Debbie Spellman from Detox Your Mind has featured me as No.7 in her Fifty Two Woman Project.  I thought I would share this with you all, so you can find out a bit more about me and my story.

No. 7 – Jessica Sepel

Jessica and I are both Ambassadors for Sun Warrior and when I came across her website I just had to feature her! What I love about Jess is her honesty and humility…she is truly a beautiful woman and I can’t wait to watch her take the world by storm with her message of health and wellness.

As a Health and Lifestyle advisor your embody health, nutrition and wellness. Was there a time when you didn’t feel so happy and confident in what you were doing and why?

Oh yes there was a time! My past encompasses a host of health problems and challenges. This journey did not come easily.

Just over 2 years ago my self-esteem was shot. I was sleep deprived. My cortisol levels were through the roof,  my weight fluctuated and crept up whenever it could and my drive for life was almost non existent. My body was my biggest burden.  The self-doubt and self loathing I endured was truly disabling. I suffered from immense anxiety. I felt ‘passionless’ and my relationship with my body and food was a constant battle. Alcohol became my best friend. I was a fad dieter.

Funny thing is, I was studying health through all of this thinking I was very healthy. I look back and I was a mess. My gorgeous partner was the one who reminded me that I am worth more than that.  He reminded me that my life was in my hands and I could no longer blame it on everything and any one else. He was my catalyst who picked me up and taught me that my life is ready to bloom, that I could have the most spectacular life if I wanted and that I am good enough just as I am. And my journey of self love and healing began….

All you need is a reminder that you are worth it…

I look back on my past with love and compassion. I was just trying to find my way and looking for love and comfort in all of the wrong places. We are all just want love.

Was there a defining moment when you decided to launch JessicaSepel.com or did this develop and evolve over time?

I am coming into my 5th year of health/nutrition study and about 8 months ago I felt the need to release the knowledge that I was gaining, so my blog was really just an outlet for that. Also, after years of my own battle with loving myself, I began to realise I was not the only one feeling so bad about myself. I was looking around and realizing so many people were tired, unhappy, exhausted, anxious and overweight. I didn’t quite understand how this could be, I still don’t. Where have we gone wrong?? This is the journey I am on, I am trying to uncover it all- why women have disconnected themselves from their own bodies. It breaks my heart.

Launching a business – even one which stems from our truest hearts desires – can be daunting. What was the biggest obstacle you had to overcome in your mindset in order to live the life of your dreams?

I am so flattered that the public and my followers think I am running a business. I have had to clear this up a lot this week actually. I am SO not running a business yet! I am a student. I am in my final few months of studying and until then my studies come first and my business will take off in good time. I am seeing a few clients in my home clinic but I am only doing that 1-day a week. I truly cannot wait to begin my journey of creating a business out of my love and passion. What more could you ask for! I have very exciting business plans ahead and it can get frustrating because I just want to do it now.  But I need to sit tight and be patient because it will all happen in good time.

Where do you source your inspiration to continue to inspire so many people through your website?

My inspiration comes from many health bloggers, nutritionists and nutrition experts. It also comes from within because each day my health challenges and fears become less and the peace between my body and my being evolves, more and more. It warms my heart just saying that out loud. I finally feel free from the noise.

We all have those days where we just want to crawl under a rock and hide and whether this is due to things not going well or not feeling our best. Fleeting as they may be, how do you move through moments like these?

I accept it, I sit with it! I try move through the day best I can. Not everyday can flow seamlessly and perfectly. Life comes with challenges and a few falls. I know when something is not going as best as I would like it, there is usually a lesson on its way.

When life is challenging me, it’s usually trying to teach me something. This is when we learn life’s biggest lessons.

Life can be overwhelming in our attempts to juggle work, nurture relationships, take time out for ourselves, tend to our families and everything else in between. What do you do when you begin to feel completely overwhelmed?

This is something I take very seriously. I get upset when I catch myself ‘rushing through life’. It is so important we stop, slow down, breathe and enjoy each moment with pure presence. When I am feeling overwhelmed, I take a step back, take off all the pressure and expectations and make sure I spend time in solitude and silence away from my phone and computer. I am trying to juggle study, blogging, my boyfriend, a close family and my girlfriends. It is a struggle to juggle it all but I know what comes first and I am confident that everything else will fall into place. Everything always works out in the end. I also put into practice some helpful techniques as part of my routine, for example: My phone and computer off my 9pm, I check my emails only 2-3x/day and I say NO to any social arrangements when I am feeling overwhelmed. I make sure I have a few minutes a day for Jess time!

Mental chatter is one thing my readers share they struggle with on a daily basis. What is your process in overcoming your own negative self-talk?

This is still a work in progress. Lately I just shout back at the ‘mental chatter’ and say “Hey you, enough of that. You are ridiculous and not welcome in my mind! I am good enough.” Because the subconscious clutter in our minds is usually not real, it’s our ego that takes over. These thoughts are made up and do not have our best interests at heart.

As women many of us are too quick to judge ourselves, criticising our faults and often ignoring the wonderful qualities we posses. Do you have moments of ‘self-pity’, ‘comparison’ or lack of ‘self-belief’ and is there a practice you do to empower yourself in moving forward to rise above this?

Yes of course I have moments of lack of self-belief. Blogging exposes a lot of ones self and sometimes I feel afraid to put myself out there like I do. I feel it comes with a lot of responsibility. I often think, “who is going to listen to you Jess, you’re just a 23 year old, there are so many more experienced bloggers/health experts out there, what are you doing!!” But again I have to center myself and remind myself of how far I have come in such little time. I feel gratitude is what keeps me grounded and empowered on this journey and reminds me of what it means to be a wellness warrior.

What does self-love mean to you and how do you show yourself a little nugget of love in those moments you need it most?

To me, self love means peace between your being and your body, the end to the fight, the acceptance of self and acceptance of the past and finally the release of all the judgment and caring what others think.

Self love encompasses the ability to be grateful for your body and all its hard work.

I wake up each morning, thanking my body for waking up with such health. My commitment to healthy living is the essence of self love.

You are very admirable in all you have achieved and the lifestyle you continue to live today. What advice do you have for women who dream of running their own business doing what they love, yet are experiencing fear and self-doubt?

Just be real.

Be honest about your journey. People will love you for your authenticity. Being real means being relatable and there are so many people out there who need you and will learn from your unique journey and benefit from it. We underestimate the power of our voices and the beautiful ways we can help one another. We all just want the same thing—-love. The human connection is so powerful.

What is one thing we don’t know about you?

I am messy messy messy. I cannot eat without spilling everywhere! And I HATE clothes shopping. Please believe me, I do!

What awesome things can we expect to see from Jessica Sepel in 2013?

2013 will be the start to my career.

Soon I will be a qualified nutritionist. I hope to open up my own clinic and practice privately. I am also working on a number of workshops for young teenagers to empower them to create healthy lives and a healthy relationship with their bodies.

I hope to create retreats for women from far and wide. Thailand would be a fantastic place for this! Don’t you think?

I am going to be travelling quite a bit too where I will blog about my experiences in various healthy environments and share my knowledge with you all.

I have begun writing my e-book that I hope will be released in 2014.

Hi Jessica, I believe in synchronicity so when I was guided to you .on FB I was intrigued and inspired. I turned 46 last week and my husband bought me your book. I wanted to thank you for sharing your wisdom in such a beautifully presented way. My  copy is now filled with tabs and post it notes with actual notes throughout. I am dairy intolerant since having my gallbladder removed 15+ years ago, I don't eat meat, very minimal gluten and was told 12 months ago my gut was not digesting my food properly so I wasn't receiving sufficient nutrients and taking supplements would be a waste of time.  My weight fluctuates tending to gain rather than lose but now I believe I have a tool to help me bring my body back into balance that I need for my health and longevity of life - so again thank you. The first few steps to creating a stronger path forward for my health has found its foundation in your beautiful book, The Healthy Life.

When I started my studies, I was drinking lots of coffee and I was eaten the wrong foods, and feel bad about it, I wasn't at my best.
