When I started my blog 3 years ago, I had no idea it would become the most altering and affirming experience of my life. People often ask how I got started, and the fact is th11122506_10153229166255699_2077381347_nat it was totally organic. To be honest, I had NO intention to ever be a blogger. But if I think about what has really helped me create something that connects to people, it’s because of exactly that – my desire to connect.

The goal of my own blog, JSHealth, is to be a forum where we can share and learn from our journeys to health. I’ve also learned how important it is to be vulnerable and share my own journey because real is relatable. Other people are going through what I am going through – so it’s all about coming together and creating a support network for 11198657_10153229298025699_167125731_neach other. Connection – not a business – was the intention. And in order to build a successful blog – a community – I believe you must remain grounded, real, and always live your truth. It’s amazing how inspiring your life will be just by doing that!

This is my step-by-step guide to creating your own blog:

  • Start by writing down your thoughts, emotions and other experiences you are having – journal it or type it into a simple document.
  • Open up your heart – be willing to get vulnerable.11166010_10153229298220699_1787028551_n
  • Do this for recipes, too, if you’re interested in food blogging. I started collecting and writing recipes that I was discovering in my kitchen. I did this for 6 months before I put anything live for the public to see.
  • Believe in yourself! People are going through what you are going through – and they are interested in what you have to say about your experience.
  • Create your blog. I use WordPress, and initially I did it myself using a very simple layout.
  • Start uploading the contents from your journal or documents onto your blog – and don’t forget to add some great photos!11198493_10153229312815699_1425570887_n
  • Don’t put yourself down. Remember, you will inspire so many. You will have moments of doubt, this is true. Just keep believing in yourself.
  • Make it a goal to upload a blog post and a recipe weekly. You can increase this, if you like, as you get more comfortable.
  • Ensure you are sharing all of this on social media too – be sure to have other platforms set up. Instagram is one of my favourites!
  • Eventually, you can get a web designer involved to make the website aesthetically pleasing, easy to use, and reflective of you.11185486_10153229298360699_373420640_n-1
  • Keep doing this – and keep believing in the power of your voice. The world needs it!

Blogging and social media is such an amazing way to connect, to share your story, and to spread your passions. I am so grateful for the JSHealth community and all that they have done for me. It’s pretty amazing the communities that can be created online, the people you can meet, and the friendships that can be made!
