Tell us a little about who you are, what you do, and how you got here:

I help the modern woman find inner calm, self-acceptance and confidence in her busy world. Specifically I help her dissolve her negative self-image in order to reveal her real and gorgeous self.  It used to be very different story…about 5 years ago I was living a lifestyle filled with A-list parties, social pages and lots of champagne – I thought I was happy.  It wasn’t until I fell sick 3 times in 1 year with the bed-ridden flu and my body started breaking down.  Then I realised just how in-authentically I was living my life!  I was searching for happiness in all the wrong places, that swanky business title, designer dress or next night out.  I ended up going through quiet an emotional breakdown and hit rock bottom – it was the best thing that ever happened to me.  I had to break my false self-image in order to discover who I truly was.  I then re-built myself and my life from the inside out – I moved out of my head and into my heart and there I discovered my true passion along with the courage to live a lifestyle I loved, without compromise.  I now mentor women along this same journey to help them break down their false self-image, discover who they are and create a meaningful lifestyle that has them bounding out of bed every single day.  I am truly grateful for the fulfilling work I do.

What does ‘health’ mean to you?

Health to me is well-being; encompassing body, mind and soul.  I work a great deal around self-worth and self-acceptance, when the mind is imbalanced it can throw off the entire body.  Being a Mind Detox Therapist I focus on finding the emotional root cause to low self-worth, anxiety/physical symptoms or illness and a great deal of mental and physical conditions have in fact begun in your past.  Healing your past can create so much freedom in the present.  I also believe strongly to nourish and nurture your amazing body – after all it houses your soul.  Everything you put on your skin, all that you eat and drink affects every cell.  When I look after myself with organic and raw foods, juices, meditation, me-time and self-care my mind and body provide me with energy, focus and a sparkle for life that is hard to beat.

How do you manage to stay so fit and healthy?  Please share with us your dietary philosophy/secrets:

Ultimately, I make a moment by moment choice to nourish and nurture my mind and body.  Specifically I have a morning routine which gives me loads of energy – I start with oil pulling (coconut oil) to clear out toxins.  I then have a Noni Juice (ladies, if you want strong nails, glowing skin and gorgeous hair – get your hot little hands on Noni Juice, Miranda Kerr doesn’t swear by this stuff for no reason, it works!).  I follow this with a Tonic a friend of mine has created, containing all sorts of anti-inflammatory goodness (garlic, cumin, turmeric, ginger etc) this is soon to hit organic stores – it’s amazing! Following this I make a green smoothie concoction – I say concoction because it has a bazillion ingredients.  I also routinely do my ‘hour of power’ every morning as this ensures I enter my day feeling grounded and at peace.  It’s like hitting my recharge button at 6am.  Nourishment, self-care and exercise (with my gorgeous dog Jed) are a part of my lifestyle now – I choose to do this simply because it makes me feel so damn good!

What brings balance to your life?

My fiancée – he let’s me be the optimistic, creative, big vision thinker that I am yet gently brings me back to reality when it’s needed (bless).  I also have in place boundaries and non-negotiables, which I never compromise.  This creates structure and breathing space.  ‘Me-time’ is essential, especially unplugging from the world and just allowing myself to be.  I have also kicked some huge self-sabotaging habits in the past year; changing ingrained programming can be a challenge yet when this is gone life becomes a very different (and amazing) reality.  Lastly, I have simplified my life, clearing unnecessary ‘stuff’ allows new things to flow in.

What is your favourite healthy recreational activity?

Going for a walk/run in Centennial Park or the Bronte to Bondi (yes, I do it the other way around) coastal path.  Getting out in nature sparks creativity and clears the mind.

Who is your greatest health inspiration?

Any person who takes responsibility for their own health.  It’s insane how many people play the victim role in society, yet they have inside of them the personal power to transform their health, lifestyle and mind.  You can do it!

Where is your favourite place on earth?

Noosa.  I have been fortunate enough to travel to some incredible places in our world yet Noosa has my heart.  A close second is Bali.

What is your favourite meal/snack?

I recently did a raw food cleanse for 3 weeks and my most favourite part was the kick ass salads I was creating.  All kinds of raw and organic ingredients were thrown in and I fell in love with the humble salad.  It’s by far my favourite healthy meal.

What is your favourite healthy neighbourhood restaurant?

About Life in Bondi Junction.  It’s my local – I go there to buy bread or a coconut and come out with 5 bags of goodness knows what!  All essential however.  I love that place – the café has yummy organic food, they do almond milk lattes and the supermarket has e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g…..you have been warned!

What is next on the cards for you?  What are you goals and aspirations?

Oooh so much!  I am launching my first Mind Detox Woman’s Retreat in Bali in October, I am one of the experts in an Australian first all-women Seminar Series, Girlpower Goddess which helps women achieve their business dreams.  At present I am in the process of creating my 3 month coaching program into an full e-course to launch in 2014 and my popular 30 Days To Detox Your Mind program into an iphone app.  I am also planning a wedding and honeymoon, which is super exciting!

Debbie’s Green Smoothie Concoction

(this will have your cells buzzing with goodness and keep immune system strong)

 Ingredients:

  • 1 Banana
  • Handful of Kale + Spinach
  • 1/4 Cucumber
  • Squeeze Lemon
  • Fresh Ginger sliced
  • 1 Tablespoon Aloe Juice
  • Fresh or frozen organic mixed berries
  • Selection of other fruit: Kiwi Fruit, Mango, Peach etc
  • 1 Tablespoon Goji berries
  • 1 Tablespoon Linseed, Chia + Sesame seed mix
  • 1 Teaspoon ground Cinnamon
  • 1 Tablespoon Nori Flakes
  • 1 Tablespoon Yeast Flakes (jammed back with Vitamin B)
  • 2 Tablespoon Maca + Raw Organic Cacao Powder (hello energy central!)
  • A scoop of Raw Organic Green Superfood
  • A squeeze of honey
  • 1 Tablespoon spoon Coconut Oil
  • Topped off with coconut water (fresh out of the husk itself where possible) or you can substitute with soy milk/almond milk if you are after something a little creamier. Yum!

At times I will throw in alfalfa sprouts, parsley, broccoli and any other goodness I have in the fridge!

Method:

Add all the ingredients into a blender and blend away!

PS:  I told you it was a concoction – this makes a whole lotta smoothie, a few glasses in fact.  Drink em’ up it’s a wonderful way to start your day.
