The Healed Life: Belinda Anderson From Living From The Inside Out

Healthy Q&A's
Belinda Crop2

Welcome to ‘Jess’s weekly inspirational person’…

This week’s weekly inspiration person is….

NAME: Belinda Anderson

Belinda Crop2

A true inspiration. This lady is on a mission to heal the world.

AGE: 37

OCCUPATION: Pilates and meditation teacher, holistic/law of attraction life coach, author of Living from the Inside Out, A Guide to Healing and  Transforming your Life from Within.

Tell us a little about who you are, what you do, how you go here.

I live on the Gold Coast with my family – husband, Darren and two precious sons, Hayden and Lachlan.

This time last year, I wasn’t a life coach, I had no website, no facebook page (I actually use to be anti-social media!), I had no coaching clients, no events booked, no speaking engagements, and my first book Living from the Inside Out was in the process of being edited/proofread (I had no idea what I was going to do with it!). WOW . . . how things can change and all because I took on the role as the creator of my life and allowed it to be all that I knew it could be!

What does ‘health’ mean to you?

To be whole and balanced, our mind, body, heart and soul need to work in harmony with one another. Taking care of them all equally is a powerful step towards overall wellbeing (fixing one and neglecting another will not lead to a truly happy, healthy and fulfilling life).

How do you manage to stay so fit and healthy?

My family lead a very active and healthy lifestyle which I believe is very important – it comes down to lifestyle; healthy living should not be a chore.

Yoga and Pilates dominate my exercise regime, as I find they complement one another beautifully. They are holistic practices that give me the most benefit mentally, spiritually, and physically. I always feel stronger, more flexible and fabulous afterwards – never pained, strained or ready to pass out, but balanced and stress-free. Meditation and getting out in nature are also a huge part of my daily ritual.

Share your Dietary Philosophy?

Simple…eat wholesome, healthy food that is as close to nature as possible. I believe it is important to put thought and effort into the preparation of your meals to ensure that you’re eating foods that strengthen and revitalise you, rather than leave you feeling weakened and sluggish.

I also allow myself the not-so-healthy things on occasions, as I know it’s all about moderation. Depriving yourself of anything will only make you want it more. The word “diet” does not exist in my world, as I believe it only imposes unrealistic restrictions on how you live your life. However, once you learn to respect your body and condition it against junk food, you will naturally want to fill it with the right fuel so that it performs at its best.

I am certain my family’s magic medicine is our regular nutritionally packed immunity “green juice”, as we are injecting goodness straight into our body. I know these juices help contribute to keeping the nasties away and are great for alkalising, detoxing, and providing us with the energy we need to sustain the active lifestyles we lead.

What brings balance to your life?

As a mother I believe you must ensure that you look for a balance so that you can be a positive role model for your children. It’s important to show them that as much as you are fulfilled and love the role of being their mum, nurturer and protector – and wouldn’t change it in an instant – they must also be able to witness you looking after yourself.

It’s not healthy for children to see their mum constantly frazzled and worn-out, neglecting her own needs, health and wellbeing. There’s a reason flight attendants tell you to put your own oxygen mask on first. It is not a selfish act, it’s simply that you need to look after yourself first before you can look after anyone else. And this also applies in life, especially to motherhood.

My belief is that if we are happy and healthy, both physically, emotionally, and spiritually we will be in a much better position to handle motherhood and the pressures that come with it.

Learning all about self-love was huge for me! It taught me to become very good at setting boundaries. I know when to say no, and I only allow others in my life who positively contribute to my personal growth. People who master self-love are mindful and know what they think, feel and want, rather than allowing others to decide for them.

Going to the beach with my family on a hot Summers day and also trekking through the lush Gold Coast hinterland. Also as a mum, my highlight every week is being a sideline sports spectator – yes, I am a “Soccer Mum” and I LOVE IT!

Who is your greatest health inspiration?

There a so many people who inspire me every single day but the more I learn, grow and become confident in myself, the more I realise that “I” am the expert in my life. No-one knows me or my body as well as I do.

I hear and notice the messages my body gives me. Our body will always talk to us and tell us when it is feeling run-down and coming down with something. It will always give us signs and signals, and it will happily tap us on the shoulder. If we’re too busy to notice the tap, it will tap again and again, and eventually it will give us a big whack to make us take notice. Being conscious and mindful and taking in what our body is telling us is really something we all need to master.

Where is your favorite place on earth?

Snuggling and cuddling in bed with my entire family – these are memories that I will cherish forever! But if we are talking destinations, my favourite family holidays have been The Whitsunday’s and Bali.

What is your favorite healthy meal/snack?

I am all about simplicity so a quick snack for me is something as easy as: Salmon rolls – smoked salmon, avocado (mashed), cucumber, baby spinach.

Lay out your salmon and add filling – avocado, cucumber, baby spinach and then wrap the salmon around. . . awesome brain food!

Or cut up a delicious organic apple up and spread with some almond butter and sprinkle with some cinnamon.

Please don’t be fooled into thinking that only bad food is tasty. There are so many tasty and extremely satisfying healthy foods available, so stop thinking lettuce leaves and start becoming more creative. There’s inspiration everywhere if you are willing to look.

What is your favorite healthy neighborhood restaurant?

Here’s 3: Wood Box, BSKT and From Earth and Water

What is next on the cards for you? Dream and Aspirations..

The more study and research I have done, and personal experience I have had with meditation and self-help, the more I realise the significance of taking in the now by seizing the moment. By doing this, we relish and prosper in the present moment, rather than hovering and waiting around for the future to come and present us with our big master plan. Why do we need to sit back and wait for better days ahead – what’s wrong with today?

Goals are great to have, as they give us clarity and something to aim for; they keep us focused and on track, but is it really the goal we are chasing or a “feeling” of being happy, successful, loved, admired and noticed? I believe if we take care of the now by paying attention to the present moment, the goals and dreams we have for our future will naturally begin to unfold and appear.

I am full of  gratitude to be where I am right now and I have complete trust that what is to come is exactly what is meant to be.

Please share one of your favorite healthy recipes here…

Raw Goodness Bar:

2 tbsp cacao (you could also add some cacao nibs)

1/2 cup almonds or your nut of choice

1/2 cup sunflower seeds

1/4 cup chia seeds

1/4 cup desiccated coconut

1/4 cup pumpkin seeds

4 medjool dates

(or dried fruit eg. sultanas, figs, cranberries, blueberries, goji berries)

1 tbsp organic coconut oil (add more if mixture is too dry)

1 tbsp organic maple syrup or raw honey

1 tsp cinnamon

2 tsp vanilla extract

Using your blender, pulse the ingredients creating a dough consistency. Press into a shallow dish lined with baking paper. Spread evenly and place into freezer to harden up and then slice into bars.

Hi Jessica, I believe in synchronicity so when I was guided to you .on FB I was intrigued and inspired. I turned 46 last week and my husband bought me your book. I wanted to thank you for sharing your wisdom in such a beautifully presented way. My  copy is now filled with tabs and post it notes with actual notes throughout. I am dairy intolerant since having my gallbladder removed 15+ years ago, I don't eat meat, very minimal gluten and was told 12 months ago my gut was not digesting my food properly so I wasn't receiving sufficient nutrients and taking supplements would be a waste of time.  My weight fluctuates tending to gain rather than lose but now I believe I have a tool to help me bring my body back into balance that I need for my health and longevity of life - so again thank you. The first few steps to creating a stronger path forward for my health has found its foundation in your beautiful book, The Healthy Life.

With kindest regards Samantha

I'm writing this email because I wanted to tell you how much I love your blog and how you really helped me in my health journey. Thank you for sharing all your advices and experiences.

When I started my studies, I was drinking lots of coffee and I was eaten the wrong foods, and feel bad about it, I wasn't at my best. So I had done some research on the net but at first I didn't found advices that are for me, and then I found your blog. It was exactly what I was looking for, good advices and healthy recipes. Now I'm following your advices on rest more, and snacks between meals and prep the meals and take time for myself to reconnect with my body and let go my anxiety, etc, and I have a more balanced life and have a new relationship with food thanks to you.

I bought your book and it's honestly the best book I have ever bought. I suffer from IBS and anxiety. I have paid so much money seeing naturopaths however after reading your book and all of your tips I'm noticing so much of a difference, so simple and easy to follow. And symptoms have dramatically decreased. Also you have helped me to relax. Currently drinking the protein health smoothie! Thankyou your amazing.

Hey Jessica!
I haven’t yet brought ‘The Healthy Life’, but I do have the clean life and your slim down plan! I would like to thank you so much for the knowledge your share and the message you put across about health and wellness. I’m studying Nutritional Medicine in Melbourne and absolutely love the philosophy that you share with your JSHealth community. The work you’ve done to show people that leading a healthy lifestyle isn’t boring, tasteless, difficult or depriving is amazing and hope to share the message myself one day. You’ve inspired me to start my own blog , to share the message and have taught me so many things about my own health! You should be proud of your achievements! Thank you again

- Jacinta

I searched for help and tips through the Internet and found Jessica Sepel. This is seriously not exaggerated, but she was the reason why I have dared myself to eat again, to have snacks in between, to nourish my body. I could slowly improve my negative thoughts about my body image and my stupid anxiety of gaining weight. Besides, The Cleanest Gut was awesome too! A huge thank you! Especially from my mum. Seriously, without you I wouldn’t be where I am now!

Congratulations on your new book! It looks absolutely gorgeous. I’ve been following you on Instagram for a few years and you’ve inspired me to slowly but surely eat healthier without giving myself a hard time when I don’t. It made me so happy (and weirdly proud) to see the Daily Mail article on The Healthy Life. I remember trying out your recipes before you even had your eBook out! I can’t wait to get my hands on the book. Keep up the great work.

Cooking in this way truly brought out the foodie in me and has instilled a huge passion for health and wellness! Life throws you hard and frustrating things sometimes but I truly believe that this is where we learn more about ourselves and what our passions in life are! Thank you for inspiring me on my journey to health and wellness!

I am a yoga teacher in Johannesburg and am thrilled to have bought your book today. I love making healthy, nutritious food for my family, friends and fellow yogis! Thank you for this book and your inspiration (had to share a pic of my book on my recipe stand in the kitchen).

– Helene

I bought your beautiful book during the week and told my bestie to go out and buy it also! I love love love it. It is the book I would give to my younger self if I could (I am 41 years old). Everything is just so sensible and informative and is definitely a book all teenagers should have. This should be a text book for girls becoming teens. I will love going back and re-reading it many many times and can't wait to make more of the recipes. Thank you Jess - you are an incredibly inspiring woman and you should feel so proud
