Nadia Fairfax is our kind of gal – she’s a total jetsetter, a talented self-made fashion blogger at Fairfax Journal and still manages to make time to go for meditative walks and enjoy a little bit of indulgence. We love her balanced philosophy when it comes to health and wellness – happiness and enjoyment is key! We agree!

  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself – who you are and what you do.

I am 25, I live a pretty outrageous life, I get to travel a lot and I work for myself which means my hours are very adaptable. I do believe this contributes to my well being. I am extremely lucky!  I was an elite athlete for many years before swapping professions, currently I work in the fashion industry. I create content for fashion, beauty, technology and lifestyle brands. I’d say I am only moderately active annddddddd, I don’t mind a party night!

  1. Talk us through a typical day in your life

Truthfully, I have no typical routine when it comes to meals… It’s pretty hard to have a routine when you live between two continents (AUS and US). I think I break so many rules. I am usually not hungry when I first wake up, so I don’t eat breakfast until around 10am (eeek, I’ve been told this is a huge no-no). I only eat savoury breakfasts and I usually need it to consists of some sort of carbohydrate or I am a little moody my lunch, just ask my assistant!

I try to walk a few mornings a week, although depending on schedule, sometimes this takes place in the afternoons. Nothing too strenuous, it’s more about a mental state then a physical one. I love to let my imagination run wild on my walks –  I think about my wedding, my future, creative projects, how I could change the world – you know? All the normal things! Haha. It’s a great escape, I truly drift off to another place… I don’t mediate (YET) so I feel this is my own form of meditation.

There is often a lot of laptop-time during the day, I always make sure I have a bottle of water with me when I am typing. Whenever I need a breather or have to stop to think of a particular word (or simply WHAT THE HELL IS THAT EMAIL?), I take a sip, I end up drinking a lot of water! It saves my skin… Sometimes during the holidays when I am digital-detoxing my skin turns to rubbish as I am no where near hydrated enough… I graze a lot during the day, sometime I would say I don’t even eat set meals. I eat when I am hungry and I eat whatever my body craves, if its carbs or sugar I allow it. I think your body tells you what it needs! When I am in Australia I am early to bed (9pm-ish) and early to rise (6am-ish) , when I am in NYC I feed off the energy that the city gives,  I am usually up quite late and sleep in like crazy (Until 11am sometimes!!)

  1. Coffee or tea?

There is a time and place for both! I really enjoy having a coffee in the morning prior to a walk! Gets my heart rate up, gets me extremely excited to take on the day. Although if anyone heard the awesome 90’s beats I have playing whilst walking it would be truly embarrassing. I only drink herbal tea and it’s more for cold weather post lunch! As most of my friends would tell you, I am a little ball of energy, I really have to stay away from caffeine in the evenings otherwise I have difficulty sleeping.

  1. What is your indulgence of choice?

There isn’t just one! I must admit I can be pretty naughty when it comes to food choices. I wont say most of the time, I’d say about 50% of the time I am super healthy (I actually really enjoy vegetables and fruits/anything fresh) but then I don’t mind a few cocktail here and there and I do binge on naughty foods fair bit. I love any form of chips, from pringles to pizza shapes, I can sit down and eat an entire packet of Tim Tams… DON’T HATE ME! Hahaha! I think if you can balance it out then its usually A-OK. I have a deep love for savoury things, especially cheese.

  1. Three foods you can’t live without?

A big bowl of mung beans with some sort of oil based dressing. Prawn cracker, yep – like what you get when you get take away Chinese! So bad for you, but so delicious. And, VEAL! I eat so much veal, It’s a huge part of my diet. I eat a lot of protein – simply because I love to taste of meat! I love cold meat from the fridge – it’s such a great snack.

  1. What’s your go-to snack for those days on the run?

Blue Dinosaur bars! They are way too yummy, and also good for me! WIN WIN! Lamington is my fave.

  1. … And any last words of advice or tips for those starting out on their health journey?

Hmmm – Well, I have been an elite athlete (Gymnast) at the Australian Institute of sport and now I am in the fashion industry, two spaces that can be highly controversial in regards to weight and well being! I consider myself to be in really great health and I have never taken exercise and / or dieting too seriously.  Its all about enjoyment and fun… if you are happy the rest follows.
