If you’re a follower of all things delicious and nutritious on Instagram, you’ll no doubt have seen Hannah Singleton’s work before. As one half of the Mother-Daughter Health Synergy duo she’s responsible for the creation and photography of some seriously drool-worthy healthy food. From açai bowls to raw treats, Hannah’s Day on a Plate is every bit as vibrant and delicious as we hoped! Read on to find out what this Insta-star eats in a day…


  1. Tell us a little bit about yourself – who you are and what you do.


My name is Hannah and I am a Media and Communications student at the University of Sydney. My passion lies in writing, photography and health so Health Synergy has provided an outlet for me to combine these interests in a way I never could have imagined.



  1. What was the ‘uh ha’ moment that inspired you to get in to health and wellbeing?


My interest in health and wellness was inspired by my Mum (the other half of Health Synergy). Having a nutritionist as a mum, I have always eaten fairly healthily but it wasn’t until I was about 15 that I began to take a personal interest in it. I love the way that eating healthy foods makes me feel and the difference it makes to my energy levels and overall functioning. More than that, I love the taste and the sense of feeling nourished.


  1. Talk us through a typical day in your life…


Most days I wake up at around 7am and start the day with a glass of hot water and lemon to kick-start my metabolism (and am also sometimes guilty of doing a quick Instagram check in bed!) I then like to do a 10-15 minute powerplate session – we are lucky enough to have adopted one from my Mum’s health clinic which we keep in our garage.


After that I make my breakfast. I have a religious commitment to my daily acai bowls so make this for breakfast every day (if for some reason I can’t, I will make it for lunch). Lately I have been making our delicious ‘Almond Butter Acai Bowl’. Afterwards, I make a sencha green-tea for my daily caffeine hit (and an antioxidant boost).




After breakfast I spend some time replying to emails and doing any Health Synergy related work before heading to uni. This involves creating new recipes, photography, writing for the blog, uploading recipes to the app, etc.


For uni, I always make sure I pack at least 1L of filtered water to drink throughout the day, as well as some snacks to keep me going. I almost always have tamari almonds with me.


For lunch, my go-to is avocado and tomato on toasted bread. I love the gluten-free bread from Organic Bread Bar in Surry Hills but when I don’t have this, I opt for organic spelt or soy linseed. For me, avo on toast is best kept simple with just a light drizzle of olive oil, fresh lemon juice and a pinch of Himalayan salt and pepper. I also love adding fresh basil leaves and/or sprouts from our garden which are packed with nutrients and enzymes.




In the afternoon I always like to do some form of exercise, whether that is taking my dog for a walk in the park to soak up some Vitamin D or going to a yoga/pilates class in Bondi. My go-to walks include the big loop of centennial park or on a weekend, I love the Bondi-Bronte coastal walk. Walking in nature is my favourite form of exercise and is also a great time to reflect and practice ‘mindfulness’, bringing awareness to the present moment. Not only that, but walking is reported to be one of the best ways to tone up!


For an afternoon snack, I usually opt for a Health Synergy treat (our fridge is usually stocked with our healthy desserts… usually some form of raw cake). Photographed below is our creamy orange and turmeric cheesecake with a rich, chocolate shortbread crust from the app – one of the best if you ask me.




Before dinner, I will enjoy a herbal tea whilst I do some of my uni work. I am loving the ‘Paddington’ tea from Ovio at the moment.


Dinner is my most varied meal of the day but I often have a mixed vegetable and tofu brown-rice stir fry (great way to get in your daily recommend vegetable intake!) or some grilled salmon with soba noodles and wilted greens. Another favourite of mine is my mum’s famous Eggplant Involtini  and recipe on the app. My dinner choices are usually dependant on the weather – I love soups in the winter (especially the carrot soup from Health Synergy app) and fresh salads in the summer.



If I am craving something sweet after dinner I will have a few squares of dark chocolate or a few medjool dates filled with almond butter (unless there is a freshly baked Health Synergy dessert on offer that day).


As the day comes to an end, I like to take some time out to relax and enjoy another herbal tea (usually lemongrass and ginger). If I have time, I like to have an epsom salt bath before heading to bed between 10pm-11pm.


  1. Coffee or tea?


Tea all the way…. I’m a green tea addict. I have one every day after my morning acai bowl and always finish the day with a herbal tea. Lemon and ginger is my go-to.


  1. What is your indulgence of choice?


Dark chocolate. For as long as I can remember I have been a chocolate lover (hence all the chocolate recipes on Health Synergy). I always opt for organic raw dark chocolate, not only because it is healthier but because I genuinely prefer the taste.


  1. Three foods you can’t live without?


Avocado, acai and bananas.


  1. What’s your go-to snack for those days on the run?


My top go-to snack is organic brown rice crackers with almond butter or tahini and honey. I often pack this with me for a uni snack when I am short on time. I also love making the loafs from Health Synergy app (coconut bread, banana bread, carrot loaf or date and walnut) on a Sunday in preparation for the week ahead. They can all be frozen to keep them fresh which makes for a great on-the-go snack.


  1. … And any last words of advice or tips for those starting out on their health journey?


For anyone starting out on their health journey, I would advise making small and sustainable lifestyle changes, rather than a complete overhaul. I believe that health should be a lifestyle and not just a ‘fad’ or short-term diet. On that note, I also think it is important to find a diet/exercise regime that works for you. Find healthy foods you enjoy eating so that it doesn’t become a chore and an exercise routine that makes you feel happy and energised.
