My Top Tips for a Last Minute Bridal Glow

If you’ve been reading my recent tips to be a healthy, glowing bride, you know that I believe in developing an overall healthy lifestyle that goes far beyond wedding plans. But there are a few key things you can do leading right up to the moment you say “I do” to guarantee that bridal glow.

Avoid alcohol the night before. Alcohol is dehydrating and certainly doesn’t do your skin any favours. It will also impact the quality of your sleep and could prevent you from getting enough. As if it won’t be difficult enough with all the excitement! Best to skip any booze and look ahead to a champagne toast after the ceremony.

Skip the caffeine, too. Also dehydrating, caffeine is a surefire way to get a case of the jitters. It’s best to cut it out the day before (or at least after noon) to give yourself the best chance of solid sleep. If you must have coffee the morning of, stick to one cup. Better yet, enjoy some herbal tea! It will help calm and soothe any jitters you may have.

8 hours of sleep. If you’ve skipped the alcohol and caffeine, you’re already on your way to a good night’s sleep. Bravo to the bride! This will prevent the dark circles, sallow complexion and general dullness that accompanies a sleepless night – instead you’ll wake with bright eyes that radiate your excitement.

Exfoliate. Gentle exfoliation only, please! Any major facials or procedures should be done at least 3 days before your wedding to avoid redness and swelling, but the night before is a great time to get in some last minute polishing. Or, try one of my DIY masks – you can find all my favourites in The Healthy Life. This is a simple, gentle way to feed your skin and brighten your complexion.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
It really comes down to hydration – your skin and body will reflect this! I recommend using an all-natural moisturizer in general, but this is especially important in the days leading up to your wedding. Smooth, supple skin is hydrated skin, and like I always say – beauty starts from the inside out. Keep that in mind and be sure to follow my rule of 2 liters of filtered water per day, every day – except on your wedding day! Like I mentioned, I plan to drink water but will stick with small sips on the big day. This prevents bloating and will also mean fewer trips to the bathroom! But it’s important to get those sips in – it will keep your energy up, your attention focused, and your skin glowing. Always go for filtered water – the HydroTap from Zip Water is my favourite way to enjoy fresh, clean hydration. Don’t forget to bring bottles for you and your girls – a hydrated wedding party is a happy wedding party!
