My Favourite Beauty Tips

We must take care of our insides to look beautiful on the outside!

Here are a few of my beauty ticks: 

Eat Nutritious foods that are high in enzymes and minerals. Minerals and enzymes are key elements that contribute to beautiful skin, nails and hair– Found in dark green leafy veg (spinach, kale, broccoli, rocket), nuts, seeds, fruit, sprouts. Enjoy a green juice a day/green powder formula to make it easier to load up on minerals and enzymes.

Water– stay hydrated. Aim to drink 1.5-2l filtered water daily. This can include some yummy herbal teas. This is the easiest and most effective beauty tip in my opinion. Our bodies need water! Enjoy warm lemon water upon riding to kick start digestion and great for the skin.

Cut sugar- sugar breaks down collagen and causes hormonal havoc.  Enjoy a sugar-free diet. Sugar is the main culprit for wrinkles.

Eat good fats– essential for healthy and glowing skin, fats make essential hormones (promoting hormonal balance) and good fats reduce inflammation in the body. My favorite good fats include coconut oil, olive oil, avocado, walnuts, flaxseed, chia seeds and fish. Or invest in a good fish oil supplement that contains EPA + DHA.

Eat Antioxidant rich foods – antioxidants prevent cell damage- this includes skin cells! Antioxidant rich foods include:

  • Blueberries
  • Pomegranates
  • Beetroot
  • Acai berries
  • Goji berries
  • Spinach
  • Raspberries
  • Nuts
  • Seeds
  • Dark chocolate (70% or higher of cocoa content)
  • Organic green tea

I eat all of the above foods with great pleasure!

Zinc it up! Zinc is my favorite mineral. It plays an important role in healing wounds and scar tissue. It is know for rebuilding collagen to make skin glowing and healthy. Zinc is known to prevent signs of aging and skin damage such as wrinkles and stretch marks. It also assists with hormonal balancing. Foods high in zinc include: Oysters, pumpkin seeds, seafood, and nuts. Or invest in a supplement form (our soils are quite low in zinc therefore it can be hard to obtain enough). 

I love Vitamin C. Vitamin C is fabulous for skin and very high in antioxidants. Vitamin C also nourishes our adrenal glands, helping with the stress response (stress is the number one beauty killer in my opinion). Foods high in Vitamin C include: Broccoli, cauliflower, parsley, lemon, strawberries, papaya, citrus fruits, dark leafy greens, and capsicum. Or again, invest in a supplement form with the guidance of a health practitioner. I use Vitamin C serum on my skin.

Face Mist- I love Kora’s Balancing Rose Mist– This unique combination provides the skin with antioxidant protection known widely to assist in supporting the skin’s own collagen production.

Sleep – sleep promote rest and repair of our cells. Sleep 7-8 hours a night. This is absolutely the key to good health.

Gut Health is key to beauty– we absorb all of our nutrients in the gut. If our gut is not in top shape, we wont be absorbing the necessary nutrients to make us look and feel beautiful. I believe all of us should be taking probiotics or eating fermented foods to restore good gut bacteria. Reducing our consumption of wheat and gluten can make all the difference for optimal gut health- that is a huge tip!

Rest – stress = inflammation and hormonal imbalance. Schedule in downtime daily such as: power nap, yoga, brisk walk, Epsom salt bath, meditation, and legs up against the wall, deep breathing. Slowing down is my favorite anti-ageing tip. Those who age well, rest well!

Dry body brushing– Use a dry brush for circulation and lymph drainage. Keeping your blood flowing and promoting lymph drainage can help aid glowing skin and reduce cellulite! I dry body brush a few times a week. Found at most health stores.

How to use a dry brush:

Use a soft, natural bristled brush.

Dry brush before your shower every morning.

Use a light pressure as you brush.

Starting at your feet, brush in small movements up towards your heart.

When you are done, take a shower.

Slow down! Life is busy and we must learn to say NO to social expectations, emails, requests, every job opportunity and trying to do it all. This causes us a lot of stress- you may not even be aware of it! We need to prioritise and do one thing at a time. When we feel like too much is going on, its best to stop- reevaluate- slow down- take a break. Your body will so appreciate this from you.

Solitude- I really believe enjoying some solitude and silence in my days helps my body to rebalance itself. Sometimes we can be unaware of how exhausting it is to be around other people all the time. Solitude is a really effective way to reconnect with your own body.
